Guard dance is often extremely underestimated! Because what Funken- or Tanzmariechen do only at carnival time, has not much to do with the high performance sport that Gardetanztruppen do. They train very intensively throughout the year, and guard dancing has now become a real competitive sport in which the action is intense. Rhythm feeling alone is by far not enough, because here complicated lifting figures are practiced, as well as high-class acrobatics. The splits are virtually a compulsory exercise and that in all variations, no matter whether one jumps into the splits or does a standing splits with a turn or a straddle jump. This also includes a rehearsed choreography. Just as important are charisma, variety of steps or the marching up. Pirouettes, somersaults, flickflacks or leg swings in combination with cartwheels or splits are of course also part of it! You see, this sport has it in itself!
The strict dress code has been in place since the 18th century, and even today, guard dancing is performed in the traditional guard uniforms. Of course, more elastic fabrics and more modern cuts have prevailed, but the look has essentially remained the same. At Rumpf, we primarily offer the appropriate footwear.
