TAP
Tap dance - The dancers with the hot sole! Tap dancing is fascinating and developed at the beginning of the 19th century in the USA. Immigrants and slaves danced in their free time on the streets and copied various steps or step combinations from each other. Soon they were engaged in real dance duels. Characteristic of tap dancing is the rapid foot technique, through which sounds are produced with each step. The feet become, so to speak, the rhythm instrument and the dancers percussion musicians! Since the 1920s, small metal plates were attached under the soles to accentuate the sounds more strongly. Meanwhile, different styles of tap dance have developed, such as Broadway Style or Rhythm Tap, all using their own vocabulary. Fred Astaire is certainly one of the most important representatives of tap, but Egon Bier, who learned from Fred Astaire, was also a role model and pioneer for tap dance in his time in Germany.
